The Christian Experiment
The Queen of Sheba
1 Kings 10
The Scientific Method.
- Scientific conclusions are accepted as true,
because of the method of reasoning which scientist’ employ.
- The certainty of the scientific method has
helped science achieve its authoritative status.
- The scientific method is only a tool to help the
scientist determine the validity of a proposition or hypothesis.
- It is a process to understand the cause and
effect patterns underlying reality.
- What is the scientific method?
- 1st
the observation.
- The clearly perceived effect.
- Exp. Galileo and Newton on Gravity. (Both of
these solid, inquisitive minds believed Jesus Christ.)
- All solid bodies attract to the earth.
- 2nd
the proposition or hypothesis.
- The theory. The speculation. The cause of the
observed effect. The possible explanation.
- 3rd
the actual testing and experiments.
- The hard core facts and data computed.
- 4th
the conclusion.
- The proposition is proven either true, or
false.
- If the hypothesis is false it is thrown
away.
- If it is true.
- The idea becomes a stepping stone in the
composition of truth.
Christian Proposition
- Christianity claims to be the Truth.
- All Christian propositions are subject to the
scientific method, or in other words, the process of logical thinking.
- If they do not prove to be true under serious
tests, then we can conclude they are false.
- The tests are carried out in the experience of
the disciples.
- The complete human being of spirit, soul and
body is required for the experiment.
- Millions of Christians throughout every
generation have proven the truthfulness of the Christian formula.
- (Romans 12:2)
- What is the major proposition of the life and
teaching of Jesus Christ?
- He proposed, and demonstrated that if we go
through the cross of self-denial we will experience the resurrection-life
of peace, joy and love.
- (John 4:14) Has the "living water"
satisfied your thirst?
- (John 6:34) Have you fed on the bread of Life?
- (John 7:37-38) Is the Holy Spirit causing rivers
of living water to flow out of your heart?
Solomon-type of Christ
- Solomon is positively remembered in scripture
because of his wisdom, his riches, his construction of the temple, and his
peaceful and productive rule of Israel.
- Jesus Christ said, The Queen of Sheba came from
the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, someone
greater than Solomon is here." (Matthew 12:42)
- Solomon was wise-(1 Kings 3:5, 9-14; 4:29-34;
10:23-25)
- "In Christ are hidden all the treasures
of wisdom and knowledge." (Colossians 2:3)
- "Christ the power of God and the wisdom
of God" (I Corinthians 1:24)
- Solomon was extremely wealthy-(1 Kings 10:14-29)
- Paul preached the "unsearchable riches
of Christ" (Ephesians 2:8)
The Queens Observation @ Experiment
- 1st
she
heard of the fame of Solomon.
- She heard a report from some travelers who
experienced his glory.
- She did not believe the reports until she came and
saw it with her own eyes. (vs. 7)
- 2nd
she
went to test him with hard questions.
- 3rd
she
told him all that was on her mind.
Queens Conclusion
- "When the Queen of Sheba had seen all the
wisdom of Solomon…there was no more breath (spirit) in her." (vs.
6)
- "She said to
the king, "The report was true that I heard in my own land of
your words and wisdom." (vs.7)
- The report was only half-true. It was
under-exaggerated.
- "Your wisdom and prosperity surpass the
report that I heard."
- "Happy are your men! Happy are your
servants, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom."
(vs. 8)
- "Blessed be the Lord your God."
- She recognized the source. God Almighty.
- Brethren, God wants to prove himself.
- Nearly after every prophecy God through Ezekiel
says, "that you may know that I am the lord your God."
- "Then she gave the king 9,000 lbs of gold, and
a very great quantity of spices and precious stones."
The Report
- Brethren, as a Christian I give you a report.
- "In Christ are hidden all the treasures of
wisdom and knowledge."
- I am saying this out of experience. I know this is
true, because for the last ten years of my life it has been proven over
and over.
- I have been enlightened.
- I have tasted of the heavenly gift.
- I have shared in the Holy Spirit.
- I have tasted the goodness of the word of God.
- I have tasted of the powers of the age to
come.
- (Hebrews 6:4-5)
- Brethren, know the Lord.
- Draw near, and know the glory of his salvation.
2 Questions
- Did Solomon disappoint the queen of Sheba?
- Will Christ disappoint any who come to him? PROVE
IT!
